Really enjoying the Rodric Braithwaite book, some excellent Veteran stories from Ballet Dancers to Nurses, Soldiers, Airmen, Poets the whole lot.
Whereas C.Merridale in "Ivan's War" seemed to sugest a "We're Victims" type of feel regards the Russians this book is different. The Russians, in this case, Muscovites had a job to do and got on with it. Whatever they thought of Stalin, they had a Homeland to defend this describes very well how they did it.
Tragic stories, funny stories, grim stories are all in there.
I keep reading bits I can add to this, that & the other thread on here but I'd never get the book read if I did.
I recommend this book very highly, I knw GH is impressd with it too.
