| I thought that in the early days Einstazgruppe executions often attracted crowds of spectating German soldiers. I saw an interview with an anti-Nazi officer in a TV documentary about the German opposition to Hitler in which he described seeing one, although he came across it by chance.
Apart from the actual murderer most of the Germans in the picture, including the young man in the black uniform, are from the Army, not the SS. This can be seen by the fact that their uniforms carry the eagle on the right breast; the SS had it on the left sleeve.
