Irish Guards, 3 Battalion

Hello,

I have started transcribing the War Diary from June 1944. The months from June to December '44 are complete.

Anyone who wishes to have a copy can contact me by PM for info - please state what any/all dates you are interested in.
Included in this thread are lists of casualties for the 3rd Battalion courtesy of Geoff's search engine. One list is in date order, the others are in alphabetical order and in cemetery order. Also, please note that since men would have died as result of wounds received on previous actions, not all the casualties who died on a certain day will have died as a result of that day's action.

One post lists the awards given to members of the 3rd Battalion. Update: If anyone would like details of citations, I have them all.

If I have anything further on an individual eg photo of their grave, citation, obit, there will be a link provided for more info in both the awards post and the cemetery post. Please note that some of the 2nd Bn are also included in this thread.

Some history of the Regiment including accounts of 2nd and 3rd Bns in North West Europe April 1944 - August 1944 can be found at:
History

At another link on page 139, can be found a litte info on 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bns., in the research into Sgt W Oulsnam KIA 3 Aug 1944: http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Sussex...004-Update.pdf

For info IRO James McRory MM, 2nd Battalion, died 24 Apr 1945, see link to thread:http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/unit-hi...il-1945-a.html

==========

Look-ups can be done on request in the following books:

A tribute to Major D.M. Kennedy M.C., by Robert Jocelyn, Earl of Roden. Sticky/John Kennedy served with both 1st and 3rd Battalions.

IG History by Fitzgerald

The Times of My Life, by Sir John Gorman, M.C., 2 Bn.

A Soldier's Story, by J.O.E. Vandeleur.

Hugh Dormer's Diaries

The Honour and the Shame, John Kenneally V.C.
=========
JONKERBOS spelling is copied from CWGC. Can't do the search with other spelling, so it will remain. However, please note the correction by Philip on the thread, JONKERBOSCH.

If anyone knows where I could get a copy of the maps which are referred to in War diaries I would appreciate some advice.
