Zoya,
I'm reading Vasily Grossmans Life and Fate, it's heavy going in places but a fantastic read for those interested in the Russians at war and how the Soviet state worked from someone who experienced it themselves and became one of Russias most famous writers of the 20th Century !!
Some thought provoking stuff !!
Plus have just read Chris Bellamy's Absolute War , Soviet Russia in the second world war. This was easier to read and very well researched and written , i really enjoyed it and learnt loads about the Soviet high command and the way they fought the war, it includes a very informative section on the Siege of Leningrad.
Would recommend them both,
Paul
