So my question is, does that not seem early to get out of Stalag 8b and be back in Durban so fast? Maybe he was very sick/injured? But to end up in Marseilles on the 8th of Feb 1945?

Thanks.
There were quite a few repatriations of P.O.W. who were no longer considered to be capable of carrying arms through illness or disabilities. As such were given medicals and if they were assessed as being in this catagory they were repatriated with Red Cross assistance.
