| Paul - If you have a few minutes at Anzio - pop into the Church of Many Graces at Nettuno- it's just off the beach - where you will see an excellent piece of history - it is a Madonna and Child above the main altar which was sent out from the U.K. at the beginning of the Reformation for safety to Naples - the ship was sunk and the statue washed up on the Nettuno beach and was promptly installed in the church - in the crypt is the tomb of the Saint Marie Goretti whose killer appeared at her canonisation by Pope Pius X11 in the 50's after he was released from prison - the killer I mean ! !
I recall our visit there in 2000 - vividly - as when my wife was coming out of the
Church - she slipped - fell and broke her tib and fib - we flew back to the U.K. for surgery before finally flying back to Canada - took a whole year to get 100% once more ! |
