Well, war isnīt exactly a clean and sane business, but as much as it changed almost all of those who went to it, it has to be pointed out that the Japs began the fight already behaving like some allied soldiers did after experiencing their atrocities for a while. Just ask the survivors of Nanking in ī37, for chilling tales of early disrespect (to put it mildly) for any form of civilization.
