Hms Pozarica

Hello and welcome,

POZARICA official number 166331 built in 1938 for MacAndrews & Co Ltd, London.

June 1940 she was purchased by the Admiralty for service as an Anti-Aircraft Auxiliary.
29th January 1943 attacked by torpedo bombers in posn 37.04N 4.36E capsized Bougie 13.2.43 & Broken up in Savona 16.6. 51.
If you Google “HMS POZARICA” with the quotes you will find good information. HMS POZARICA also took part in the ill-fated convoy PQ17.

Regarding Ronald Thomas Rose, there is a file at the National Archives in piece BT 372/322/90 is this him: Ronald Thomas Rose This file is his seaman's pouch. Pouches can be hit or miss and there is no way of telling what will be there unless you look. There is sometimes a photo there albeit a mugshot.

It is likely that when the POZARICA was handed over to the Royal Navy the MN crew would have signed what is known as a T124 agreement. There may be details of Ronald held at the National Archives in piece BT 382/3277 at this link here: Detecting your browser settings

There are other files in the National Archives covering HMS POZARICA this one covers 1941 -1943 but I suspect deals with the torpedo attack which crippled the ship. ADM 267/131 at this link here: Detecting your browser settings

These files will be free If you can visit the National Archives in Kew otherwise you can get them by requesting an estimate on-line. If you need advice on this just post back. I hope that helps you.

Regards
Hugh
