I've just found details of the lynching in Kennington via Google. It was the same area, but not that date. The date in question was 15.9.1940 and the victim was Oberleutnant (= Flying Officer) Robert Zehbe of the bomber unit KG76.

There is a German site devoted to the lynching of airmen at:-

The one on 15/09/40 is reported; a quick translation reads as follows:-

Murder of German Oberleutnant (= flying officer) Robert Zehbe (pilot with KG 76) by civilians in the London district of Kennington.
