Ref your post, just a quick correction for the sake of historical accuracy on the matter.. where it was written in the piece
'The Cockleshell Heroes were Royal Marine Commandos. These men got their nickname as the canoes they were to use were called ‘cockleshells’. ' I wont bore with the preecise details of this save to say that this is completly explained in my forthcoming publication. the canoes were not called 'cockleshells' . The canoes had the code name of 'cockle' with a demarcation of a 'mark' eg Mk 1 , Mk2 etc the actual canoe used on the raid was a cockle Mk 2 which was a flat bottomed canoe with canvas sides taht could be erected in 30 seconds. hope this helps kewdos.
