Steve -
Welcome to the forum and I am sure that there are a few people here who can help- as there are two or three members who were also in 78th (Battleaxe) Division along with the 5th Buffs.

The 5th Buffs - along with 6th West Kents and 8th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders were all in th 36th bde which was also known as the "Fire Bde" as wherever the fight was fierce - they were there.

They landed in North Africa in November '42 - the Sicily in July '43 - then Italy on september '43 - and finally finished up in Austria in May '45...
so they had nothing to be ashamed of as the 78th was one of the best divisions in both 1st and 8th armies.
Look them up on Google and also for 78th Division
Cheersl
