The aircraft took off at 2205 hrs from Little Staughton. Probably intercepted by a night-fighter, whose fire set light to both starboard engines. Spun and partially abandoned. Those who died rest in Rheinberg War Cemetery.

F/L. Trotter RCAF had flown at least 41 sorties.
