When Hitler invaded Poland, Britain, France, Amsterdam, Australia and New Zealand issued a 'back-off' last warning to Hitler, which was ignored, and declared war on Germany on September 3, 1939. |
Amsterdam is a city in the Netherlands, which stayed neutral until invaded by the Germans in 1940. The "back off" warning was an ultimatum, part of established diplomatic process inthe run up to war. It set out the terms for avoiding war.
