Having just returned from my third trip to Sicily I am in the process of writing the story of the action by 3 Commando (Army) in capturing the Malati Bridge north of Lentini in July 1943. Monty's stone is still in place after 62 years, with the inscription "3 Commando Bridge" on it and the bridge itself looks little different to 1943 photos. A very important battle for a bridge on the route north for the 50th Division of the Eighth Army. I noted with interest that below the stone someone had placed a Rememberance wooden cross. I would like to hear from any one who took part in this action, or relatives of same.
