The comment on the Italians invading was a summary not a detailed attack because it was a secondary point. The Italians invaded Somaliland, and got spanked. Hitler sends Rommel and the boys, and drove the Brits all the way to Tobruk. Churchill re-supplied and reorganized them into Eighth army who proceeded to drive the Germans back to Libya.(I summarized because I thought I was quoting common knowledge simply to set up a point). I stated the facts on Greece wrong, I was thinking at the same time (chronological relationship, rather than geographical relationship. Greece was not in the North Africa campaign, thanks for the correction.
My point was that it tied up Germans and prevented Hitler from "quickly" conquering Russia. It was the Russian winter and it alone that kept Germany from easily conquering Russia, NOT the prowess of the Russians. With good weather, blitzkrieg would have been every bit as quick as it was in France. That alone was the point.
The rest was to explain what I mean by “delaying” Hitler’s assault. If I had not qualified it, people would have jumped all over it saying “Hitler was never delayed!” so I thought I would disarm that argument preemptively. Excuse me from getting sloppy. It’s a bad habit of mine.
Besides it gives so many such satisfaction to be able to jump all over something I post. I feel like I perform a service here!
