Why would a polytheist Greek either kill or persecute someone for believing in another god? It was only centuries later in Imperial times, when Greece was part of the Roman empire, that Rome began to regard the Jews and early Christians as atheists for denying the immortal gods and, more particularly, for denying the deified emperors.
