hello everyone, new to this site so please bear with me, i have been looking for the history of my grandfathers regiment the queens 9th royal lancers for the period 21.5.1940 till there return to england. my grandfather (Bartholomew Hutchinson 317289)was killed on the 9th june near la haye malherbe (i think) the 9th were in st valery with the 51st Div. but info about the period after that has been hard to find. believe they lost 6 men during their retreat to brest. any info at all would be greatly appreciated, or any suggestions of books or websites covering this topic,

Have a read through here. HyperWar: The War in France and Flanders, 1939-1940 (UK Military Series) Welcome to the forum, always good to chat about the 1940 campaign. They weren't with 51st Div, they were retreating across the Seine. I was that way back in the summer. This is a good book about that campaign. The Fight for the Channel Ports: Calais to Brest 1940: a Study in Confusion by Michael Glover at Questia Online Library Rather alot of references in there about 9th Lancers and 2nd Armd Bde. I picked my copy up on eBay for a few pounds. A few here quite cheap. AbeBooks: Search Results - glover and channel ports From BBC site, BBC - WW2 People's War - France 1940 Last edited by Owen; 12-12-2007 at 10:09 AM. |
