Photos of 2nd Bn Northamptonshire Regiment men.

Whilst in Anzio War Museum I spied these photos and thought they may be of interest to a few members.

First one is a casualty.

GHT Ball.
Son of John Thomas Ball and Dorothy Hannah Ball, of Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.
Date of death 27/03/44.


Sgt JG Phipps, with Privates Jones and Treseder.

Thanks for posting those Owen, It's a strange thought that my Grandfather would have known the N.C.O.s at least.

Sergeant Dodman won his M.M. during counter attacks on the "Fortress" at Anzio. According to Jervois' history, "...the men of 'B' echelon who, though not directly engaged in the battles had supplied the nightly parties- averaging 150 strong and including clerks, cooks and M.T. fitters - for carrying up supplies and ammunition, usually through heavy fire. The cool determination of Sgt. Dodman, who led these parties, was rewarded by the Military Medal."

It's nice to put a face to the story.

These photos were great - we spent some time looking at them. The museum owner stated that many of the photos may appear in a forthcoming book; let's hope so.
