Question Fifth Gear give-aways - r they real?

This may sound like stupid and odd question but each Fifth Gear episode includes massive give away which is some very good car and tons of additional stuff like PS3, LCD TV, 2 tickets to drive some super-car and on and on.. So I couldn't resist to ask you - some british folks here - r they real those give-aways? Because each episode they offer all this great stuff for answer on very silly and easy question which can be googled for about one sec. And in addition this valuable stuff is offered in times of economic depresssion just for free - where money from, huh?

The 'Free Money' is generated by the phone-numbers used to call in the answers to those simple questions Alex. Premium rate phonelines on a primetime programme no doubt generate considerably more than the value of the gear they're giving away .

As Adam stated the questions are made very easy in order to entice as many people as possible to partake in the competion, thereby generating a lot of costly telephone calls where the TV company take a large slice.
The thing is in the real world, most things are not free!

Tom

Aha, I've noticed astronomic price for text message - from 1.5 quid and above! Hell no, that's not ma type of competition.

I like the prizes on The Gadget Show on C5... takes more time to read out than they give to any given gadget's coverage.
Kind of loopy.

This give-aways r vacuum cleaners for your wallets, damn me if not.

PS: btw, do british TV channels have such kind of interactive quiz where viewers have to open a word from assorted set of characters from it like? The word is always simple as hell but u just can't call to 'em or text 'em - line is forever busy or even when get thru you have the message - you've been late because only 1 of 8 callers with right answer wins. Here its a like plague on TV. And call and text charges is high like hell too.
