Received from Michael, A map of the area where the guns were located and another photo of soldiers having their souvenir photograph taken. Michael currently has ongoing enquiries with two military museums regarding this thread. He will post results when received. Regards Tom

A reply received by Michael. Hi Michael ‘your’ gun is a German Krupp naval gun of 15cm, L/45 (meaning the tube length is 45 times its calibre). These kind of guns were ‘ringkanone’ type, that is to say made by hot assembly of tubes of different calibres in each other. They were actually 149.1mm calibre guns, developed for the II Reich Navy. The role of the German Navy in WWI was so small, most of the reserve tubes for the battleships were re-allocated to land operations, mounted either on wheeled carriage (like the one on my link hereunder), or as coastal defence under a shield, like yours. Similar guns were installed on the Belgian shore, amongst other types. You will find herewith a picture of such a gun on “Batterie Kaiserin” in Blankenberge. I have no idea where this gun is nowadays. 95 % of these old guys have been scrapped and melted after the war, or during other wars, when fighting countries need steel to forge new weapons. I am interested in any info you might have on this topic, and will try to get some on specialised websites I know. You will find a land version of it, surviving in Canada, on my website in the following link, with all the needed characteristics you desire http://www.passioncompassion1418.com/Canons/ImagesCanons/Allemagne/Lourde/english_FC150SLK45Woodbridge.html Please fell free to ask for more specific questions Friendly Bernard Plumier REPORT. WW1. 23 SEP 1918. HAIFA. THE BATTLE AGAINST THE TURKS. On the mornning of the 22nd SEP 1918 the attack on Haifa failed. the leading force, under the command of Brig. General King, came under heavy arrtiary fire near BALAD EL SHECH, about 6 miles outside Haifa. they had to turn back to Meggido, were the main force was waiting. The next mornning, 23 SEP 1918, the force including the 15 horse mount unit, and theIndian Maysore Lancers approached Haifa , again from the east , along the Kishon River. Near Ballad El Sheich heavy machine gun fire and arrtilary from Mount Carmel caused the force to stop. 2 men on horseback tried to cross the Kishon River and drowned. it was now, at 1100, that a small group of Mysore Lancers on horseback were given the order to climb up the Mountain and stop the Big Guns. only a few made it to the top, 15 riders , and they finnished the Turkish crew opperating the Big Guns. at 1400 the British and Indian fighting units entered Haifa. I have sent pictures that I have received so far from Australia, from Tom in Berlin, from friends in Israel. It seems that one of the Big Guns was out here till 1927, and many officers, and soldiers took pictures near the old gun. We know that it was a KRUPP NAVAL GUN that Germany gave to the Turks. it must have been surrounded by trees, as you can see the stumps of the chopped trees in 3 pictures. we have a full discription of the gun too, which I am sending here. I want to thank all the friends in the WW1 and WW2 for all the help, and a special thanks to Tom-our man in Berlin. Michael Gottschalk Regards Tom
