Sept 11 -- what year? 30% of Americans don't know

Quote:
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Some 30 percent of Americans cannot say in what year the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks against New York's World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington took place, according to a poll published in the Washington Post newspaper.

While the country is preparing to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 lives and shocked the world, 95 percent of Americans questioned in the poll were able to remember the month and the day of the attacks, according to Wednesday's edition of the newspaper.

But when asked what year, 30 percent could not give a correct answer.

Not much point in asking them about WWII then.

"You were given the choice between war and dishonor.
You chose dishonor and you will have war."

(Winston Churchill made this prophetic pronouncement in a House of Commons speech in 1938, just after Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich agreement with Hitler. Chamberlain returned from Germany with the signed agreement in hand, proclaiming that "peace in our time" had been achieved. Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.)

Considering that only just over 1000 people were sampled, I would hardly say this is conclusive; if you accept that it is, then it also must show that 70% of Americans did know when 911 was. If such a sample was taken in NYC or WA then I suspect the outcome would be very different indeed.

Showing as ever that you can do exactly what you want with statistics.

What do they say? Oh yes, statistics can prove that a 'million to one shot' can happen nine times out of ten.

Exactly my point - what does it prove, if anything?
