![]() | I give you the words of a very early Gerry Rafferty song..."Blood and Glory" Don't you feel like talkin', to a man whose fed up walkin', All the tim-iiiii---ime. Don't you feel like sayin' To a man whose fed up prayin', That your mi--iiii--ine!! We fought a lot of battles, From Nebraska to Seattle, I'm so ti-iiii---ired, We hid in lonley places and we never seen their faces, Till' they fi-iiiii-red!! Welll don't hear me talkin'! (Blood and Glo-ry) I'm FED UP WALKIN'..( In mud and glory) I'lll tell a story,..(of Blood and Glory) About bloood an glory! Well, we threw away our sabres, and we joined with Preston's raiders, For a wh-iiii-ile, We looted and we plundered while the Yankee cannons thundered, We just smi---iii--led! But now I'm back home in Kentuckey, And I know that I've been lucky, To sur-vi---iii-ive.... I never want to see another cannon aimed at me, While I'm ali--iii-ive! Well, now, hear me talkin'...... |

![]() | Oh and Alex....that song...FIRESTARTER.....our social group when I was a kid used to refer to that song as (singing) "I'm a fartlighter, Twisted Fartlighter!"......ah we used to laugh at that one! Over the Holidays i picked up a copy of Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet", a more serious piece of Russian classical music I have yet to find....the Dance of the Knights is just a terrifically serious listen as far as music goes.....Russia, it seems, is very well served with classical composers, something we in the west don't seem to follow in quite the same serious manner....our loss, because some of the music that's resulted from these Russian composers gives you the deepest feelings when you listen to them....extraordinary stuff, proving once and for all that Russian people have a standard of education that is the ENVY of the western world. Every Russian, it seems, is familiar with their own classics, to the point of actually knowing the melodies and different movements of the pieces composed.... The more I learn about Russia and Russian people, the more there I stand back in admiration at the cultural achievements of a group of humans that could have more excuses than most for NOT having this sort of heritage....It is only more to the credit of these resiliant peopl that they DO have such a rich cultural heritage.....For me, next will be the symphonies of THIAKHOVSKY Last edited by Christos; 29-12-2007 at 02:17 AM. |
