O.K. got it.

The airfield NNW of the Lancaster is R.A.F. Alconbury, the one ENE is R.A.F. Wyton.

Re: Google Earth Lancaster

I found the Lancaster (magnificent aircraft) and Alconbury. To the SW of the Lancaster is a marker that says RAF Brampton, but it's a residential area. (?)

Follow the runway from Alconbury that points approximatly SSE and you will see the other airfield.

Re: Google Earth Lancaster

Along those lines; below is an image of Bognor/Aldwick seafront. It shows a Mulberry section that came adrift on the way to Normandy and has been there ever since. Location:

50°46'39.94"N 0°41'52.30"W

I now read the council are going to get rid of it. Glad I got the chance to explore it when I lived there many moons ago!

Quite a few, actually, so long as they are in areas with decent resolution. I posted the coordinates of North Field on Tinian at the War in the Air board.

How did you copy that image from Google Earth? I can't even get the coordinates to copy.

Re: Google Earth Lancaster

  • B17? at Duxford: 52° 5'31.93"N 0° 7'44.97"E (The V1 launching rail and Tank park are also clearly visible.)
  • HMS Belfast: 51°30'23.39"N 0° 4'52.99"W Casting a fine shadow.
  • HMS Alliance: 50°47'18.04"N 1° 7'10.74"W (The Pompey dockyards across the way are worth a shufti too)
  • U534: 53°24'16.25"N 3° 1'37.70"W
And not strictly ww2 but shocking nonetheless,
  • The Aeroplane Graveyard: 32° 9'15.63"N 110°49'59.03"W
