Interesting talk i had with some German Teens

Well i was visiting the lovely county of England, i was staying in the new Youth Hostel in Oxford, which is a very beautiful county. I went to the Three Goets Head Pub (I think that is the name), that was an awesome place, where i befriended several of the bar maids that worked there.
Anyways while i was staying in the Youth Hostel i quite frequently visited there smoking lounge, o and yeah the prrces of smokes in the UK Sucks Ass, and i often enjoyed the company of the other guests, many of which were a class of German students they varied in age prolly between 15-18. A very interesting group of kids,im only 20 at the time of this meeting i was 19 so i could "relate" to them. First i was very surprised by the fact that many of the younger girls and boys smoked alot. I thought Europeans were very healthy and clean, hmm. The girls were the first ones to approach me and asked in broken english if i was an American. I said Ja, then they asked me if i spoke German, i replied back to them a little, they got all happy for some reason.

After i talked to two of the most beautiful german blondesi have ever saw, the guys started to offer me smokes and talk to me. They asked me how america was and if i like bush, which i said, Its good but insecure and No idont like Bush. After about a day of talking like that i asked them some questions in a mix of german and english.

I got engough courage to ask a couple ofthe guys about a certain german unit from ww2, i was reluctant at first to ask about ww2 because of a bad experince i had in Germany where i asked a camping supply store if they sold knives like the ones used in WW2, im refering to the Gravity knives, the store owner kicked me out and threatened to call the cops. But the boys were confused about the question, they seemed like they had never heard of world war two. One of the boys said that he did some reading on the internet about german units in the war. They seemed really reluctant to talk about world war two, its weird.

Then I left oxford and headed to the Lake Disctrict of Wales where i stayed in the "flagship" of the youth hostels, a building that looks like a castle. There i met another group of German students about the same age but with more girls, most of them knew better english and asked me if all americans think all germans are nazis. i said no and that americans know that true nazis only made up a small portion of the population. I even told them that some of my relatives fought for both sides during the war. They were confused and i told them a couple of my relatives fought with the Americans and at least one of my Notrwegian relatives fought with the Waffen SS and another german relative fought in the german army. they looked sad and i left cause it felt really weird.

Any one have any thoughts on this?

Well you did well friend.Really well you sould remaind those people what there nation did befor a long time.In there History books the germans mist the periot of ww2 and this is really anoying at least i hear so it can be a false info. But expecialy the Germans must remamber ww2 because in fact there prusian glory and desire for power, territory, glory and vicotrys infect the world with two world wars.
Most of the Germans are prould of there grandfathers that served in the german army and why shouldn't they be (im sure that the Germans dont know that Bulgaria was next to them two big wars).
Its bad that those germans forgot what there ancisters "pride" done.
And i want to say one more thing. Most of the Germans dont make difference betwen Chezh and Chechens!

woudn't you feel bad if you were German? Many people blame Germans for the war and they just want to forget it.

I had some German chums back in the early 90s, twins Tanja & Jessica.
Stayed with them in Hannover. I was reading a Great War book and they didn't believe the pictures were real.
When they came over to visit they thought my mate and I were "war fetishists" because of our collections of Military books, models etc etc.
They only mentioned the war when we took them to Glastonbury 92.
They refered to the toilets as their Grandad would....."Stalingrad toilets".

It is sad. I think the government is far to tight about what can and cant be taught. People as a whole have the right to know about their own nations history, whether good or bad.

Oh yeah, whilst shopping in Hannover thought I'd look for some German war books.
Didn't find one.

It's funny, all the times I have been to Germany, I have always met WW2 veterans. I was staying with a German friend who took me to meet his mother and her 'toy boy' (Klaus himself was 50-odd at the time, so you will appreciate his mother was no spring chicken). Introduced to said toy boy, a grizzled old man, I made my usual formal greetings and held out my hand to shake his, when a hand minus several fingers was returned with a slow laugh and the phrase,

'Ach, Stalingrad' !!

No i wont feel bad!Thats exactly what i said in many of my post.Anyone must be prould of what there coutry was.One year befor ww1 Bulgaria made terrible things to the Serbian people when our armys meet in savige battle bayonet vs bayonet. When the Bulgarians enter in Serbia they started to kill robe, rape there was a pinting in Serbia of one Bulgarian Soldier who have stab a baby on his Bayonet.
I dont feel bad by what the outher people do.Everybody is individual no metter of his nation.

And Cpl Rootes dont forget who made Germany to pay so big reparation after the ww1. ***deleted - please keep your anti-Jewish comments to yourself*** Dont you think that this is the matter why germans want to forget what they done but someone aweys remind them.
