Anyone help with details on this battle, it was where a colleague of mine's dad was captured.

His dad was in the 10th Hussars.

Cheers

"Knightsbridge Box" was a defensive box in the western desert, called Knightsbridge because it was, at first, garrisoned by the Guards Brigade.

Forgot to say, if you have a name, date of capture etc you might come up with more.

For example, this link: http://www.warlinks.com/armour/3_cly/3cly_42.html
will take you to the 1942 War Diary of the 3rd County of London Yeomanry
(3rd Sharpshooters). Scroll down to 27 May 1942 and you get a list of both officer and OR casualties at Knightsbridge.

I have the original War Office publication on 8th Army from which the attached map is taken. Knightsbridge was on a crossroads near Gazala and was important for any army going for Tobruk.

This was a part of the bigger battle of Gazala in May/June 1942. There is a fairly detailed account in Barrie Pitt's The Crucible of War: Auchinleck's Command, chapter 5. This is the second volume of his trilogy on the desert war from 1940 to el Alamein.

there is also Rommels account of the Battle in Chapter 9 of his papers.

this is taken from the Rommel Papers. it is interesting to compare both versions of the same battle map.

I hate to put a damper on the party, but aren't these maps breaching copyright?

since they do not represent 10% of either the total images or text then copyright does not come into it!
