Hi all, I just bought When Trumpets Fade on DVD. I thought it was very good, although a little short and somethimes the music was a bit inapropriate. other than that i thought it was very good at showing the horror at the end of the war. What do you think about it? Also i am looking for WW2/1 movies made in 1980s-present. So far i have found Saving Private Ryan, Band of Bros, The Trench, Lost Battalion, The Bunker (more horror), When Trumpets Fade, Stalingrad, Enemy at the Gates, Thin Red line, Wind Talkers, Harts War, Pearl harbor, Memphis Belle. Am I missing any others? Thanks, Robert

I don't care if they're pre-1980 but if you haven't watched "The longest day", "Sink the Bismarck!", "Tora! Tora! Tora!", "Patton", "Battle of Britain", "All quiet in the western front", "The Bridge at Remagen" then you haven't seen anything. Very, very few modern WWII films are as accurate and very good, dramatically speaking. A good recent one, the most terrifying film about the Holocaust: "Conspiracy" with Kenneth Branagh, Stanley Tucci and Colin Firth. There's "Band of Brothers" too. ![]() Another film about the Holocaust, though not a conventional one at all is "Bent". Very good. You even get to see Sir Mick Jagger dressed as a Drag Queen.

And speaking about "When Trumpets Fade", it was good but not very good. The music was indeed inapropriate some times and the photography was quite bad. And the German 'tanks' we see in the film were everything but tanks! Carton boxes with a stick, ill-disguised as a gun...
