Gnomey will become famous soon enough
I just bought a new book called "The Voice of War: The Second World War told by those who Fought it" edited by James Owen and Guy Walters. It contains personal accounts from combatants and non-combatants from Albert Speer and Winston Churchill to Hans Von Luck and Douglas MacArthur. It looks a good book and it claims to be one of the 'finest collections ever assembled of first-hand accounts of the Second World War. As I am not going to be reading it for a while I was just wondering if anyone else had it and what they thought about it. It is published in Viking books priced £20, I got it from WHSmith)

You could also try;

Countdown to Victory 0340822023
Forgotten Voices of the Second World War 0091897343

All along the same lines, I have all of these and need to get them read! (only read the d-day one so far)

Cheers

This makes me feel better, I'm not the only person with a "too read" pile.
Mine seems to be getting out of control, according to my wife anyway!

I don't have a "to read" pile...I have a "to read" bookshelf!

Not enough hours in the day! plus it really doesn't help working in the book trade... my purchases outweigh my reads each month... and now we need a bigger house!

Oh well here's to early retirement

Anyone here ever read "100 Best True Stories of World WarII"? It was published in 1945 at the very end of the war and contains first-hand-account stories gathered from various magazines of the day. I thought it might be a little too overblown and patriotic given the context in which it was written...But i've been pleasantly surprised, there's not alot of flag waving going on, it's a very good read so far, and it's almost 900pages so i'll be reading for a while

If interested there's actually a copy on Ebay right now for around $15 U.S. Well worth the money fellas!
