It's supposed to be a good book. I've seen it ebay a couple of times and thought ummmm, but always bought something else instead. Let us know what you think.

I had already the books he borrowed from, so CS was not very interesting.

The book and mini series, Band of Brothers, was heavily borrowed from Parachute Infantry: An American Paratrooper's Memoir of D-Day and the Fall of the Third Reich by David Webster. Webster was wounded during Market Garden (shot in the buttocks as portrayed in the movie) and did not rejoin the unit until after Bastogne. In his book, he was not treated by the others as depicted in the movie when returning from the hospital. Since I did not read the book BofB, I don't know if the change was made by Ambrose or the screen writers.

IMHO, you are better off finding out what books Ambrose plagarized..er uh..borrowed from and read them. The stories are much better.
Thanks for the recommendations... I recently decided to look for some books quoted in BofB and picked up a copy of Burgett 's Curahee!

Just arrived in the post, The Tiger Kills HMSO.
Looks a great little book, superb photo of Messervy and his GSO1 looking very battle worn. Unfortunately not on the IWM site but very taken same time as this one. E 7236
Other photos show the different Indian troops and their headwear.
Cheers for the heads up Kyt & Bod.

A selection of turbans from WW1 - at least they had become more standardised by WW2

Funny you should say that, just been planning a book-hunting trip to Hay in August.

(Anyone got any recommendations for shops with especially good Military sections there?)

The worst time to go for a bargain is during the Book festival. It gets taken over by the pretentious and the "literati".

But it's a great place any other time, and the countryside is good too.

VP, this shop is good for both browsing and online:

Hay on Wye Booksellers : Second Hand Books : Military : 1

Wouldn't dream of going during the festival...

As you've both picked out the same shop I'll have to check that out
(already found four from my list on there ) Prices seem reasonable too.
