Reading 'My War' by Colby Buzzell. Very good book about Iraq, funny in places, about a guy trying to make a difference.

David Fletcher - Vanguard of Victory; The 79th Armoured division.

Another in the HMSO series, very good with clear descriptions of each 'Funny' deployed by Hobart and his men, from AVREs to rocket powered ARKs. Not quite sure why it now commands a highish price on the second-hand market as it's more of a high quality extended magazine article than a real in-depth study, still worth a read though.

Cheers,
Adam.

Smile Top Ten Book

Just finished 'Finest Hour' by Tim Clayton and Phil Craig.
This book is one of my top ten books. Fantastic book on 1940 (Owen if your reading this, try and get a copy if you haven't read it).

Just started 'Dunkirk' by H S-Montefiore.

Almost finishing Guido Knopp "Hitler Krieger", a translation from german, book about six german top army men like Rommel and Ernst Udet, very interesting story about men that didn't supported nazism itself but did nothing to stop it just doing 'soldier job' and obeying orders..

I've just finsihed Alan Clark's Barbarossa, and have started on Amazon.co.uk: The Siege of Leningrad: 900 Days of Terror (Cassell Military Paperbacks): David M. Glantz: Books which is disappointingly only 334 pages, of which almost 100 are notes, biblio. & a complete list of every army and division in both the Wehrmacht and the Red Army! I will order this one a a follow up: Amazon.co.uk: The 900 Days: The Siege of Leningrad: Harrison E. Salisbury: Books 640 pages, that's more like it! I can read 300 pages in a week, and have to ration myself not to finish books too quickly!

I am looking forward to Beevor's Leningrad, published 2009

Zoya,

I'm reading Vasily Grossmans Life and Fate, it's heavy going in places but a fantastic read for those interested in the Russians at war and how the Soviet state worked from someone who experienced it themselves and became one of Russias most famous writers of the 20th Century !!

Some thought provoking stuff !!

Plus have just read Chris Bellamy's Absolute War , Soviet Russia in the second world war. This was easier to read and very well researched and written , i really enjoyed it and learnt loads about the Soviet high command and the way they fought the war, it includes a very informative section on the Siege of Leningrad.

Would recommend them both,

Paul

I have Life and Fate on my Amazon wish list! Also his book A Writer at War, about his time with the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War/ Barbarossa (not sure which is it best to refer to it as?!)

I could do with a new book, I'm finding David Glantz's 'Siege of Leningrad' to be dry beyond belief Has anyone read this one?: Amazon.co.uk: The 900 Days: The Siege of Leningrad: Harrison E. Salisbury: Books
