Colonel Jean-Patrice O'Sullivan

Just read that Colonel Jean-Patrice O'Sullivan was in charge of Infantry units in the Thionville Sector of the Maginot line fighting June 1940.

I wondered how a French officer came by an Irish surname, had a Google and found this.
