![]() | Identifying uniform etc...photo attached Hi there, This is my uncle victor who would have been in the Army between 1962 and 19?? not sure how long he served, he took his own life. The story behind it was that he was in Northern Ireland, met an Irish girl, and because NI weren;t popular here in England my Grandparents sort of disowned him..I am sure thisis not the full story..so that at least tells me he was in NI. However IO am guesing this pic was taken somewhere hot. The gun looks pretty impressive, any idead what it is?? Any hints you can give me would be great, I know this isn't WW2, but I am struggling to find an appropriate forum. Also pic attached of my grandad in navy uniform, I am trying to find out what he did, his ships etc etc. He served in WW2, was born in Amesbury Wilts in 1923 and was called Robin J McCormick. Any help would be appreciated. My grandfather is the one getting married in the first pics, and the one on the left in the second. Thank you for any help you can give. Kirstie NB- VICTOR IS NOW LAST ON THE ATTACHMENTS. K |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Ayup Kirstie, Have you tried the Army Rumour service and their Naval cousin Rum Ration? Quite a good chance of getting a uniform ID there from people who served at the time. Brace yourself for some potentially 'robust' humour over there though. ![]() Good luck, Adam.

![]() | Hello there, The single stripe on his left arm denotes 4 years service done over the age of 18. So he had served for a minimum of 4 years before the wedding. The single anchor above denotes a leading rank, in this case a leading mechanical engineer because the prop on his right arm denotes a stoker/mechanical engineer. |
