| Hi Christos, thank you for the reply. I understand that my Father was involved in fighting in both Buna and Gona and also on the Kokoda track. From very recent discussions with my older brother I am able to relate the foillowing: Dad was in hospital with malaria and was approached by two officers who indicated that as he was unable to carry a rifle he could be of assistance to the Army as a Coastwatcher where the natives would be available to assist him. I understand that he was given a crash course in radio procedure and was placed on the coastline where he was able to relay informnation of enemy aircraft movements to Pt Moresby. During the fighting he was with the 49th Infantry Batallion. Hope this will assist you. Regards Morrie. |
