![]() | War Canoes unfortuanatly i seem not to be able to explain all in the reply something about pics etc. re canoes in ww2 go to this site and ask any questions and recieve correct answer http://groups.google.com/group/WW2BMC re chap that has canoe with arrows, sorry not ww2. i am willing to be wrong but i would put money on it . send pics and/or description. comes in bags? does it have a flat bottom? |

![]() | Ref your post, just a quick correction for the sake of historical accuracy on the matter.. where it was written in the piece 'The Cockleshell Heroes were Royal Marine Commandos. These men got their nickname as the canoes they were to use were called ‘cockleshells’. ' I wont bore with the preecise details of this save to say that this is completly explained in my forthcoming publication. the canoes were not called 'cockleshells' . The canoes had the code name of 'cockle' with a demarcation of a 'mark' eg Mk 1 , Mk2 etc the actual canoe used on the raid was a cockle Mk 2 which was a flat bottomed canoe with canvas sides taht could be erected in 30 seconds. hope this helps kewdos. ![]() |

![]() | As well as hte film.....at least two books on the raid....one each by Hasler and Sparks....the Hasler one came out in the 50's (?) and the Sparks one not so long ago and by Pen and Sword I think...... |
