![]() | Hi there, Donnie or anyone, do you have more information about the India General Service Medal 1908-1935... what was it awarded for? is there a list of which year people got them anywhere? I found a death record, possibly for my C. Ross, that makes it look like he died in 1932... and wasn't in WW2 at all... so if any of these medals in the picture were awarded later I guess the photo and name and other details don't line up. |

![]() ![]() | Hi, If your man died in 1932 he would still have been eligable to wear his medal ribbons up until that point. WW1 medals ussualy being issued in the early 1920's. This may be of interest to you to explain the IGS:http://www.northeastmedals.co.uk/britishguide/india_general_service_1908.htm The medal index card shows he was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal which would not tie in with the photo as your man only has the British War Medal. His entitlement also shows he didnt serve in a warzone until after 1916. His MIC explains that he was discharged either due to wounds or ill health caused by military service because he was awarded a Silver Wound Badge which was forwarded by a Colonial Officer?......when was your man born? I dont think this is your chap, try and find one to an Indian Regiment with only a BWM. Hope this all helps, Donnie P.S. The MIC is to a British West Indies Regiment. And i think that unless you were an Officer you were likely to be Black?
