![]() ![]() | Is this true? Just read somewhere that after Germany invaded Poland they had run out of ammo and were in an extremely vulnerable position yet the allies did nothing. Hitler admitting later that germany would've had to "run back with our tails between our legs" had the allies done something about the rhine occupation. Is this true? I would've thought a country with Germanys capability would have been better prepared at the start of their conquest. I still do. Anybody else heard this? cheers marcus |

![]() ![]() | Not sure about the ammo information. But yes, there is probably some grain of truth in the fact that if the allies would have stood up to Hitler at some earlier point, like the re occuption of the rhineland, or the annex of the Sudatland then Hitler popularity would have had a blow it would not have recovered from. Even to have struck quickly right after Poland. Sadly its consiened to the 'what ifs bucket'. What about Russia, They invaded Poland too. Should we have started war with them? Theorectically France enter the war on Polands side, should have declared war on Russia too. Hitler no doubt knew this and knew France would never dare, plus if they did he wins anyway, he wanted war with Russia. Its just a mess. The other two problems is that (IMHO) the allies where in no postion to fight a war, Even a stand up Queensbury rules no Blitzkreig type stuff, not even a year later and more importantly there was no will to fight one, which is probably the most important. ![]() ![]() | Good answer mate. I don't have any solid source from where I read it, I just copied and pasted it from somewhere in the internet cosmos. Sadly it is a 'what if'. But interesting all the same. Why do you say there was no will to fight a war? Is it because it hadn't affected the british 'way of life' at that stage? marcus |

France and Britain had no will to fight Germany. If as you say they had a good chance to 'nip it in the bud' so to speak without a will to fight its wasnt going to happen. Very dangerous to get into a war without the will to win it.

However - IIRC the Allies DID move a naval force into the Skaggerak in 1939! Okay - it wasn't big - I THINK three French destroyers that later linked up with a number of Polish exile units.
