Holland an awkward country!

Just going trough WD 13 RHA when they entered:

Very awkward country for gun postions!, open ground is soft and marshay and the wooded parts are laible to contain snipers.

Was it true that the War College in the Netherlands (prior to WW2) looked at the problems an army might expect when invading/liberating. So many things were a natural obstacle.

I wonder what their conclusions were.
