Hi, I need help in what badges etc wear. I shall soon be going to a 1940's evening in which I already have an officers uniform to wear(royal orndnance corps). But the jacket is completely bare(except the buttons). I do not know what decoratives to get and were to get them. So any help would be appriciated.

Regards

Mark

You need a pair of Bronze Collar Dogs,& a Set of "Pips" to the Rank you choose to be[1X Pr, 2nd Lt;2 x Pr, Lt;3 x,Pr,Captain;Crown x Pr,Major;Crown & Pipx Pr, Lt Col;]& any Pre War or Early WW2 Decorations & Medals you feel your Officer Type will have been awarded,is he a David Niven Type Dashing Hero ,or a Roger Livesey 'Col Blimp'??
You should be able to find this sort of thing fairly easily @ a Local Collectors Fair/Shop,the only difficult items might be the Collar Badges~I sold a pair recently on E Bay & they made £28.00,so it might be worth changing Regiment & finding a pair of RE or RA Dogs & a Set of Buttons,Good Luck & Post a JPG on the Forum!

Hi, cheers for your help, I'm a bit more in the clue now. I dont want to award myself a hero, as that would be !!!! But I certainly want to look the part. The evening isn't till July , but I shall post a jpg. Its at the WAR AND PEACE show. I'm sure others from this forum will be there. I went last year, but I hired out a RAF uniform, this year I hope to get my own outfit together in time.

If you want to be authentic, don't forget to look for ones with a king's crown as in WWII, not the more modern ones with a queen's crown.

if you are going to wear the uniform with medal ribbons, make sure you do not wear it in public as it is a crimminal offence undwer the official secrets Act 1939 to wear ribbons that you are not entitled to! unless of course you are a actor on a set of a programme or film!

And remember, as it is an RAOC uniform, that very few of their officers ended up with a chest full, apart from campaign ribbons.

I used to work as a civilian with the Rag and Oil Company and medals were not much in evidence.

Hi, thanks for your help everyone. Maybe I shant wear ribbons after all then. Just for information, I found these in the pocket of the jacket. Ive took photos to see if anyone can tell me what they are. Ive took a photo of the backs too as the fronts are tarnished. Also has anyone got a picture of an british officer to give a idea of the badges I should wear etc.
