Hi, thank you for your help in my last thread. I have found a cap badge and dog collars. But my query is, are the two badges Ive described also warn by other ranks, ie the same type of cap badge and collar badges. As I don't want to buy the wrong kind of badges that wont suit my uniform(officers)

Cheers

Noe

Cap badge should be cloth for officers, metal for ORs

I take it you're talking about an Army uniform, rather than RAF?

If it's for the SD cap (peaked cap), the officer''s cap badge should be similar to the OR badge , but in cast bronze (usually with "bend down" lugs at the back). The collar badges should also be bronze with lugs at the rear. These can sometimes seem totally unrelated to the cap-badge.

Here are some examples of WW2 badges for the East Lancashire Regiment.

On the left is the "War Economy" bakerlite badge (OR's), middle is the standard bi-metal (OR's) and on the right is the Officer's SD badge.

In this case the collar dogs were bronze roses.

You can also encounter other badges to be worn on officer's berets etc., such as the solid silver (rather than pressed white metal) officer's Parachute Regiment badge. RA officers wore a collar dog as a cap badge on their forage caps, but the standard (bronze) "cannon" badge on their SD caps. There are many variants, but it's rare to find an officer wearing an OR's badge.

Except for Captain Mainwaring!

But then his Home Guard platoon also wear binocular pouches instead of ammunition pouches.
