Just wondering whether anyone has a comprehensive list of pay scales for ranks and trades, with particular reference to the British Army of 1939-45 (ish) since I need this as a comparison with WW2 submariners' pay.

Cheers

Richard

Hi Lee (hope you're enjoying your 'retirement')

Thanks, but it's WW2-era stats only: looking at my post I should have made it a bit more obvious; I'll modify it.

Cheers
Richard

What you should be looking for is "Royal Warrant for the Pay, Appointment, promotion and non effective Pay of the Army 1940", HMSO

i do not have a copy but it is quoted in Steel inferno by Michael Reynolds.

A private after three years service earned £55 a year. A Second Lieutenant could earn £200 y year. the same as an american private.
