The 91st Bomb Group suffered more losses than any other group in the 8th Air Force, and was second in the number of cases of venereal disease. These sad facts can not be denied, and there may be some who would draw a conclusion from this, but as a veteran of 35 missions with the 91st, I wish to declare, along with some of my buddies, that with a little more effort, we could easily have been the leader in both categories.

Work hard and play hard, eh?

Our English girls are a hospitable as well as a desirable lot.

My mother-in-law tells me [frequently and loudly] that she used to "wash up for American troops" before D-day. I once told her that an entire US Armoured Division ground to a halt with food poisoning on D-Day+1, but she didn't think that was very funny. I haven't asked her if she did anything else for them....

Think long and hard before you do is my advice, or get into serious training and plan your escape route carefully.

I've had a better idea - I'll get my wife to ask her! :P

Well, that's an interesting stat, and it proves Maj. Gen. Maxwell Taylor's warning to his men of the 101st Airborne as they flew to Normandy: "Men, flies spread diseases, so remember to keep yours closed!"
