![]() | Welcome to the boards! Try the Parachute Regiment's museum at Aldershot. That would be a good place to start. Thank you for your grandfather's service to Crown and Country.

![]() | If I am correct the offictal forming of the Central Landing School was on 21st June 1940. Later known as the Parachute Training School. It was commmanded by Squadron Leader Louis Strange DSO MC DFC. Major J. Rock was the senior army officer. The first training course started at Ringway on 9 July with 100 volunteers from B & C Troop of No.2 Commando under Lt. Colonel Jackson. the first trainee drops apparently took place on 14th July and LAC Oakes was the first to do so. The first deployment of Allied paratroops 'in action' was on 10 February 1941 when the Apulia water viaduct over the River Sele near Tragino in Southern Italy was attacked and damaged. Look forward to hearing more on this. My main interest in Ringway is the first few SOE agents were soon trained there. Kind regards MG
