If WWII had not happened

Just a thought. If WWII had not happened, what would we be talking about today?

This may sound and be completely idiotic however these scenarios have always gone through my mind.

IMHO if WW2 did not occur there would have been a separate European war and a Pacific theatre war. Being the eternal cynic that I am, if Hitler had waited a few more years, the Japanese would not have waited and the Americans would not necessarily have been drawn to a later European war.

I even feel that Stalin may have reversed the aggression and invaded the Baltic states and Poland first which would have altered the face of Europe.

Could this have occurred?

What would have been the likely scenarios?

My Avatar is the memorial to the 22 Commonwealth Coastwatchers at the Temakin Cemetery on Betio (Tarawa Atoll) who were beheaded by the Japanese on 15th October 1942. http://www.dva.gov.au/media/publicat...mem_beito.html

"You were given the choice between war and dishonor.
You chose dishonor and you will have war."

(Winston Churchill made this prophetic pronouncement in a House of Commons speech in 1938, just after Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich agreement with Hitler. Chamberlain returned from Germany with the signed agreement in hand, proclaiming that "peace in our time" had been achieved. Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.)

What did the Australians do in ww2 and other conflicts? Check out this site:

Maybe not WW2 as we know it, but Europe was ready to implode after Round 1, so we would have had something similar. I think the only differences would have been the catalyst. Probably Stalin instead of Germany.
And the Pacific? Seperate war entirely with America against Japan, nobody else involved for a long time, until Japan invaded a country it shouldn't then the Commonwealth would have probably waded in. In the end WW2 would have happened, just on a different timeline and in a different order.

we would have been talking about an outbreak of fighting somewhere in europe and the british, followed by the americans involvement to the war. in short, WW2 would still have happened no matter what!
