![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks Philip. Now his CWGC entry can be changed. Name:VENN, THOMAS FREDERICK Initials:T F Nationality:United Kingdom Rank:Private Regiment/Service:Wiltshire Regiment Unit Text:5th Bn. Age:18 Date of Death:02/10/1944 Service No:14721037 Additional information:Son of Frederick Albert and Jane Barty Venn, of Lovedean, Hampshire. Casualty Type:Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference:Panel 5. Memorial:GROESBEEK MEMORIAL Looks like Thomas was in either B or D coy. Reading the 5th Bn's War Diary for 2/10/44 they were heavily involved in fighting (on 1st, 2nd and 3rd Oct) around the railway line north of Elst. They were up against tanks (at least one Panther IDed) and a Bn of 156 Pz Gr Regt. Both companies had so many casualties they had to be combined. Last edited by Owen; 10-11-2006 at 12:04 AM. |
