Dambusters Log Book

Thought it might be of interest to know that the logbook of dambuster raid participant, Sgt. D. J. D. Powell, was mentioned in a London newspaper on Tuesday 5 Dec. 2006 as having just been sold for £2,760.
The report states,

"BUSTING THE BANK FOR WWII LOG BOOK The flying log book of a British airman who took part in the famous Dambusters bouncing bombs raid was sold by auctioneer Bonhams for £2,760 yesterday. The book, which belonged to the late Sgt DJD Powell, records his part in the attack on strategic German dams in 1943."

"You were given the choice between war and dishonor.
You chose dishonor and you will have war."

(Winston Churchill made this prophetic pronouncement in a House of Commons speech in 1938, just after Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich agreement with Hitler. Chamberlain returned from Germany with the signed agreement in hand, proclaiming that "peace in our time" had been achieved. Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.)

What did the Australians do in ww2 and other conflicts? Check out this site:

Thanks for posting Peter, I saw it in the Birmingham Metro last week, but I forgot to post it on the Forum.

Sgt Powell was the fight engineer on AJ-O piloted by F/S Townsend. They made up part of the third wave and attacked the Ennepe Dam.

£7000 and counting.

God wish I had hit the lottery jackpot. And am still trying to convince Vic Hallam to let me have Guy's uniform that he has. And the Upkeep bomb. And the signed oil painting. And the other uniforms. And the radio sets. And the entire sodding museum.
