![]() ![]() ![]() | Not all CWGC records have an age given. I thought some of you may be interested in the age distribution of those that are given. This list is for UK unit casualties between 1939-45 (not including civilian war dead). Many of the youger deaths will be cadets or boy rank and many will be navy or mercantile marine. The older numbers will be staff officers, etc. and perhaps home defence units. (if I find a way to tabulate this i'll edit it!) geoff age - number - percent ================== 14 16 0.01 15 143 0.05 16 548 0.18 17 1449 0.48 18 5488 1.83 19 15489 5.18 20 22260 7.44 21 26984 9.02 22 23194 7.75 23 20845 6.97 24 19389 6.48 25 16771 5.61 26 15120 5.05 27 14603 4.88 28 13898 4.65 29 13029 4.35 30 11292 3.77 31 10025 3.35 32 9064 3.03 33 7715 2.58 34 6679 2.23 35 5774 1.93 36 5013 1.68 37 4275 1.43 38 3724 1.24 39 3451 1.15 40 2843 0.95 41 2431 0.81 42 2222 0.74 43 1770 0.59 44 1548 0.52 45 1299 0.43 46 1109 0.37 47 1035 0.35 48 949 0.32 49 936 0.31 50 783 0.26 51 659 0.22 52 699 0.23 53 639 0.21 54 562 0.19 55 500 0.17 56 503 0.17 57 439 0.15 58 405 0.14 59 346 0.12 60 300 0.10 61 183 0.06 62 188 0.06 63 140 0.05 64 140 0.05 65 98 0.03 66 60 0.02 67 47 0.02 68 38 0.01 69 27 0.01 70 18 0.01 71 6 0.00 72 8 0.00 73 3 0.00 74 2 0.00 75 1 0.00 77 1 0.00 78 1 0.00 79 1 0.00 91 1 0.00

They are listed under RAC, so the unit is not in the drop down. You will have to search in the Unit Text field. I tried it on my 'desktop' version and got over 100, here is one below to show the record format. cheers, geoff Name: BERRY, BRIAN Initials: B Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Lieutenant Regiment: Royal Armoured Corps Unit Text: 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards Age: 20 Date of Death: 11/08/1944 Service No: 304678 Additional Information: Son of Reginald Frank and Doris Christine Berry, of Purley, Surrey. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Nice one Steve, found myself oddly hypnotised by those figures when I first noticed them the other day. I assume the extreme ends of the spectrum are mostly civillian dead, but it must be possible some of those 14-16 year olds lied about their age (or perhaps are from 'colonial' armies ??). Couldn't work out if I can search through Geoff's engine using age as a criteria to see who might have a regimental/unit identity associated with such youth though. (?)
