Geoffs Search Engine for ww2

This will blow your mind;
http://www.hut-six.co.uk/cgi-bin/search39-47.php

You can search the CWGC with this new search engine from geoff. Its ten times better than the CWGC itslef.
Kind regards.
Tom.

Was just about to post this myself. Have certainly found it very useful already. Top marks to the man himself for getting this online!

Hi MuseumTom

I tested both Search engines by entering my late brother's details:

Goldstein as the surname
Royal Air Force as the Service
1945 as the year

The CWGC gave the correct answer immediately, Geoffs search engine returns "not found"

Ron

To test it I looked for cousin Bill.
I entered Dadge and Royal Air Force.
The real CWGC site was instant, Geoff's was very slow.

EDIT, just did Wiltshire Regiment and get 1000 results, now you can't do that on CWGC.

Tom, That's fantastic - The possibility to search on line by unit and date range - Great stuff !

I can see me spending quite a bit of time there !

I've been looking at Royal Engineers for 10/5/40-1/6/40 and the results are credible (540 if I remember). Searching per year might help keep things to a reasonable level.

Find it hard to believe there are only ROYAL WILTSHIRE YEOMANRY. records found: 4
I thought they saw action in the Desert at Alamein?
No casualties? Unless they recorded under another Corps? RAC maybe?
yeomanry.co.uk

Quote:
At 1800 hours the Regiment were pulled back with orders to re-equip. They had sustained seven killed, three missing believed killed and thirty-two wounded, including the Commanding Officer who had to be evacuated.......
....The Regiment had fifteen killed, twenty seven missing and twenty wounded.
Total for WELSH GUARDS. records found: 696.
So any unit who had under 1000 casualties comes out OK it seems.

Remember it's a search engine guys, not a database. I expect it will take some tweaking before it is running as well as the WW1 version he has produced.

I couldn't find any resuslts for my relitives via Geoff. It does say that his records may be incomplete so I won't blame him that much.
