 | V1 attacks on Britain 1944 Guys Just wondering how bad were these attacks - were they ever a truly serious threat or just of nuisance value?

| Apparently they killed about 6,184 people and injured 17,981. Some 2,419 V1s reached London. I would say they were more than a nuisance

Depends on who you talk to. As a serious way to effect the war effort, I am not convinced. Effect on civilian moral? Destruction of housing, etc etc maybe a bit more effect but not enough to be worth the vast effort. I line in the NW (v1's where air launched at us) so doing a little research into v1 bomb sites and noticed that the vast vast majority fell in fields and open land. Virtually useless. Kev | |

| A lot of the V1's were misdirected as a result of misinformation from Britain back to the Germans. Every V1 was tracked and info on where they landed sent to the Germans. Some info was correct some not, so that the V1's either over shot or fell short.

| some 10000 were launched towards England, so it was about a 25% success rate. Some of the misdirected information came from Eddie Chapman whose story was told in the film Triple Cross. Croydon suffered the most 'hits' which could explain the misdirected information as I believe 'we' told the Germans they were overshooting London, they therefore reduced the fuel explaining why Croydon was struck

| Yes but were resources diverted to deal with this threat, additional fighter aircraft deployed over southern england for example?
