![]() | There were three all told. 13th SS Mountain Division Handschar, 21st SS Albanian Mountain Division Skanderberg, and the SS Croatian Kama Division. All three wore fezzes with the Nazi eagle and swastika, and the Mufti of Jerusalem, Haf Amin el-Husseini, provided them with imams for spiritual leadership. All were raised in February 1943 to fight Tito's partisans, who were mostly Christians. However, the divisions did not perform well, and even mutinied during training. The Handschar Division saw some action against partisans, but the other two were never at divisional strength. All were disbanded by the end of 1944.

![]() | http://stosstruppen39-45.tripod.com/id10.html The above site could help with the wider picture of the SS in relation to Muslim recruits in the grand designs of the Nazi Party. The Favourate Links on the left is worth a gander. There's a good potted history of other SS units. Last edited by ourbill; 25-03-2007 at 11:10 PM. |

![]() | It should be pointed out in the interests of fairness, that the numbers of Muslims who served in the Axis forces was minuscule, compared to the numbers who served in the Soviet and British Empire forces during WW2 in the fight against the Axis. In January 1945 the number of Muslims serving in the British Indian army alone was 447,580. ![]() |
