![]() | What are some good stories you guys have heard about people hiding Jews? Any famous ones or ones that have hardly been talked about? Are they any good films you know of people hiding Jews during WW2? One of my favorite heroes of the Holocaust was Monsignor O'Flaherty, a high ranking official in the Vatican, who, helped rescue Jews, POWs and refugees by helping them find a hiding place in Rome at the cost of his own. He saved over 4,000 innocent souls! I did an English research report on him once. Once as the Gestapo searched for him he was a master of disguise, disguising himself from anything to a street sweeper or even a nun! He saved thousands during the war and ironically converted the Gestapo colonel who, had ordered him to be killed and who, tried to stop his work. There's a great movie about O'Flaherty called, "The Scarlet And The Black." I highly recommend it!

Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.) What did the Australians do in ww2 and other conflicts? ![]() | Oooh, Vatican priest sounds like an amazing story. I have been fairly obsessed with Raoul Wallenberg for the last several months, but I have noticed -- I guess it was just through wikipedia -- that there were other heroic diplomats like him during the war. Names, who I believe are even less known that Wallenberg's. They didn't tend to suffer his fate, but some were fired for "not doing their jobs properly." Righteous Among the Nations, and all the heroic folks who, though they couldn't stop the horror, did such amazing things to lessen it. Obviously the Holocaust should be taught in schools, horrific details and all, but it always seems like the heroes are mentioned less than the villians. Wallenberg and his ilk should be taught in every class about the Holocaust. |

![]() | You might have already heard of this movie but I recently watched on called "Weapons of the Spirit" and I thought it was excellent. The movie focuses on the story of Le Chambon, the village in France that saved thousands of Jews by sheltering them during the Holocaust. |
