![]() | I'm not sure if my answer belongs here because it seems like the general topic of dicussion concerns bombing concentration camps. I'm a senior in college and I'm taking a Holocaust class from the wife of a renowned historian who has done quite a bit of research on the Holocaust and WWII. In one of her lectures she touched on the same question that many people have . . . why didn't the free world do anything while the Holocaust was going on? I thought she made two good points: 1). Until 1944 the Allies themselves really were not doing so well militarily. Their main focus was on winning the war against the Axis powers. Without the defeat of Germany the Holocaust would continue. 2). Even in 1942 none of the death camps were in range of allied bombers. I don't say any of that to defend the fact that much of the free world did little to stop the Holocaust. However, I think it's important to remember that in fighting simply to win the war the Allies ultimately helped stop the Holocaust. |

This is where I'd disagree, as I'd say that the anti axis allies were doing an incredible amount to stop the holocaust by battering their way towards Berlin in the face of intense resistance. It may not have been a specific war aim but the only clear way to stop it was to destroy Hitler and his ridiculous Reich. No nazis, no holocaust. Cheers, Adam.

I would say stick to that class as the tutor you have instructs in reality not just with her heart.

Chamberlain returned from Germany with the signed agreement in hand, proclaiming that "peace in our time" had been achieved. Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.) What did the Australians do in ww2 and other conflicts?
